IC Plunge

On December 5 we will gather at Hartigan beach located at Albion St. & Lake Michigan near the Loyola University Campus where we will sprint into freezing cold Lake Michigan to raise money for the children of The Dwan Madiki Partnership in Northern Uganda, and ELIMU in the Democratic Republic of Congo, and to raise awareness about the two oldest humanitarian conflicts in Africa.

Participants raise money for the event through sponsorship and are encouraged to dress in costume and have fun! Following the I.C. Plunge the participants will return to the Crown Center at 1001 W. Loyola Avenue for the “Melt Down Party” and enjoy listening to speakers, warm food, artwork from the kids of Dwan Madiki, traditional Acholi dancing and learning more about the conflicts in Uganda and the Congo.

WHY?

For two decades, the children of Northern Uganda have been robbed of their childhoods by a brutal rebel army that kidnapped, tortured, and killed them. Because of the war many children in Northern Uganda do not have the means to attend school. Even though school fees are merely $40 U.S. Dollars a semester (approximation) including room and board, meals, clothing and supplies, many children cannot afford them because they were orphaned by the war and are forced to work just to eat.

Because these children deserve to be educated and nurtured, Invisible Conflicts created the Dwan Madiki Partnership, a program in Gulu (Northern Uganda) that helps individual children with their needs. Our goal for the IC Plunge is to raise $14,000, which will put 20 kids, along with 80 kids in DRC, through one year of primary or secondary school, feed and clothe them, provide for their healthcare and an expansion of community outreach initiatives in Gulu. All money raised at the IC Plunge will go directly to the Dwan Madiki Partnership and ELIMU Foundation.

HOW TO PARTICIPATE

Tell your family and friends that you’re sprinting into the freezing cold waters of Lake Michigan in December and ask them to make a donation. Better yet, ask them to join you and collect donations themselves! Plunge donation forms and waivers can be provided by Invisible Conflicts upon request.

There is a $20 registration fee, which will be waived with $100 in pledges/donations. Donations will be accepted in cash, check or online through Pay Pal at Invisibleconflicts.org. All checks should be made out to Invisible Conflicts and brought, along with all cash raised, to the event on December 5th.

You must be 18 years of age or older and sign a waiver in order to participate
